I'm trying to find some easy vegan or vegetarian food to have on hand. Are there any good fake cheese brands?
I just tried "Field Roast Vegan Chao Slices." It was....ok. I ate it on a sandwich so I don't know how it melts or what would happen if I cooked with it. Does that even work? Any good brands that are low in processed ingredients, and don't contain MSG or yeast extract? TIA |
Daiya is a longtime brand. |
Parmela if you can find it. |
Miyokos |
They are all pretty processed unless you make them from scratch. And then they’re mostly expensive. It’s all odd tasting. Wegmans is carrying the vegan version of Boursin now. It’s not exactly the same, but it’s tasty. In their natural foods section. |
That's sounds really interesting. I'm going to try that. |
VioLife and Follow Your Heart |
Fake cheese is the worst product. I have tried all the brands, and they are all terrible. It is not cheese, or even very close to cheese. The texture is so gross ("mucusy") and it will make your stomach hurt. The "cheez" also tends to go bad very quickly.
Of the ones out there, the best of the worst are Daiya for cheddar cheese and Miyokos for "cream" cheese. Products made with cashew seem the closest to okay for spreadable cheez. If you want easy vegan, get Amy's frozen meals. Their vegan pizza without cheez (just vegetables) is the best sub for regular pizza. |
Life is too short for fake cheese. Also for low-fat cheese. |
The irony. |
I used to agree. But "life" has become a parade of death. I'm trying not to participate anymore. |
I was you when I could digest dairy. Not everyone can. I certainly cannot anymore. Unless I want to throw up. |
Daiya is nasty. |
Vegan ‘cheeses’ are nasty. Former vegan here. Eat unprocessed whole plant based foods. |
Not vegan, but have bad lactose intolerance to the point where I really cannot eat soft cheese anymore. I generally don't go for non-dairy cheeses but sometimes I really am craving something extra on a burger. Violife and Miyoko's Creamery are decent. |
