Additional CES Lotteries in August 2022?

Does anyone know if there will be additional lottery drawings for CES this month? Specifically for CCES?

Only if students currently enrolled give up their spots. There are no new seats.

I have seen a few kids go back to their home schools after the first month or so. Very rare, but it happens.

Would they really even fill those seats mid-year? At our CES when kids dropped out the vacancies weren't filled until the following year.

Our CES did. A few kids started weeks into the year, and maybe one more at the semester mark. Another two or three in between years, due to families moving.

Our school didn’t fill vacancies with students who were already enrolled, but if a new student moved here and enrolled after having been in a self contained gifted program in their previous school district, they were admitted.

I've never seen anyone new come in later than maybe January of the first year.

And I have NEVER seen anyone come in from a gifted program in a previous school district.

Both my kids went through the CES and whatever it was called before, and we also only saw kids join to fill vacancies from the first year at the beginning of the second.

It happens at every CES. A couple kids left the first week at DD's CES and by the end of the first month it was probably 4 kids who left total.

Do they ever fill 5th grade spots, or do those just remain unfilled if people leave the Center after 4th grade?

At our center the empty spots at the end of 4th were filled at the beginning of 5th.

They are definitely doing lotteries this month for anyone who declined. I know because we were offered a spot a few days ago. (Haven’t decided if we will take it.)

Quick question. Did your DD/DS go through ESOL by any chance in Pre-K, K or 1st grade?

No, sorry. The letter we got made it clear we were pulled from the lottery after someone else declined or withdrew. "A seat has become available in the Centers for Enriched Studies. I am pleased to inform you that your child was pulled from the Wait Pool by random lottery..."
