I remember in 2019 and earlier, the buses were a little earlier, and have heard they are returning to that.
Is there a site listing the start and end times for elementary middle and high school in LCPS? |
It's under student info in LCPS ParentVue. My kindergardner school bus pick up time IS 6:17AM!!!!! I was like WHAT????? 6:17am people...... |
Ok that’s absurd. Our pick up is at 7:16 for a 7:50 start - we are the very last stop before school and last year the pickup was 15 min before school started so seems like they definitely moved up the bus times. |
PP here--Absurd would be an understatement on this one when school start at 07:30am. My K kid will be on the bus for over an hour, while the actual school is a ten minute drive. We're having a neighborhood laugh right now. LCPS really got this one right! |

AOL is listed as ending at 3:30. Might they send kids to the middle schools to hop on that bus? |
|
Has to be a typo someone made in the system. The actual pickup time is far more likely to be 7:17. No route in Loudoun is an hour long ride. |
Our elementary schooler gets picked up at 6:45 am. It’s an insane start time. Does anyone know why times were shifted? (And how we can fight to shift them back) |
You won't be able to "fight" to get a later time. They didn't create this schedule just to mess with parents and students. There is a bus driver shortage, and in order to get ALL the kids to school (because YOUR kids aren't the only ones that matter) they need to start early. If you want to change, maybe recruit several dozen of your friends to quit your current jobs and become school bus drivers instead. |
Nope, it is not a typo unfortunately....it's the reality. |
I guess I don’t understand why it’s the elementary schools that have the earliest start times. Why not middle and high schools like everywhere else? How do middle and high schools deal with sports if the school day doesn’t end until after 4pm? |
Many districts are shifting to high school starting last. In fact, CA just mandated it by state law due to the sleep needs of teens. Sports after school run until 5:30 or 6. This works for 14-18 year olds. They aren’t eating dinner at 5:30 with a 7pm bedtime. I prefer this schedule. |
Yep! And here’s the science behind why California is doing that: https://time.com/6206470/school-start-times-research/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=editorial&utm_term=health_sleep&linkId=177439432&fbclid=IwAR2_arSqojL4aCY_rPZyuXc9zMY8h7FZk8E4Cc8SHVl7ZhaR6hOhnspkIBA&mibextid=us0yfe&fs=e&s=cl |
This was posted on here some time back. Basically teens are wired to sleep from 12-8 or so, and that's why they should get the later start time vs elementary, who I would think would need the extra sleep. Also, parents prefer to get the elementary out early as they can let the older kids handle things by themselves. |
