I have a 2 day layover in Spain and plan to visit Barcelona.
Anyone have any suggestions? Nice beaches? Good Restaurants? Fun solo activities? Should I visit Portugal? |
| Portugal is spectacular. Yes, you should visit Portugal. |
| Barcelona beaches suck. Go south. |
| You want to visit Portugal during your two-day stopover in Spain? |
Yes but if you only have two days. There is nothing wrong with eating some good seafood at a chiringuito (little beach snack bar) on Barceloneta beach. I’d look up the gaudi buildings open to the public and pick whichever you are most interested in, buy tix in advance and go. My favorite was the apartment from 1905, La Pedrera. Parc Guell is the quintessential gaudi and the very famous spot for tourism photos in the city, no tix needed. Take a taxi as it is a bit of uphill climb from public transit and then You’re walking thru the park—save your legs. |
FYI this is slightly outdated info - I was at Park Guell last week. You need tickets now and they can only be bought online. Reserve a day in advance because they’re timed and sell out for the day by afternoon. |
| Be prepared for super crowded topless beaches in Barcelona. We were not caught unawares but the crowds made it a challenge. If you can stay at the Westin on the beach. |
| Barcelona is great. Lots of great food and things to do. |
Are you referring to the W (not Westin) Barcelona? Are all the beaches topless or just some? |
Most are topless but not everyone is topless. One of the reasons we go to beaches in that area. |
There is definitely better food in other cities. Honestly 2 days in Barcelona is plenty. |
|
OP here.
How long does check in take at the airport? I only have a carry on so no bags to check. |

If you're there on a Friday or Saturday night, check out the jazz on a rooftop at a Gaudi building. It was one of our favorite things to do there, but you need tickets in advance.

| Just came back from Barcelona. Skip the beach. Spend some time wandering around the old city, but not ramblas. See the sagrada familia. Recommend a city tour bus that will let you get on and off. Buy tickets in advance. The Picasso museum is good too. Lots of good tapas places. We are at one next to our hotel several times, Cuidano or something like that. Excellent food. |
