Tolling DC 295 should be an option

We need to raise revenue in the District and what better way than to toll DC 295 from 695 to the Maryland state line.

Did they remove the speed camera? That was doing a good job tolling.

Not when Maryland and Virginia drivers don't have to pay the tickets. And I'm going to guess they wouldn't have to pay this proposed "toll" either.

Why does the District need to raise revenue?

What? Yes they do. We did with a VA plate.

Glad you paid, but the point was that there are no repercussions for you if you don’t.

DC would need statehood to do this since Congress would never support it.

The tolls are generally used for road maintenance. Are you suggesting the collected toll would be used for something else? If so, why would commuters want to pay for that?

You didn't have to. Virginia and Maryland residents face no punishment whatsoever if they don't pay tickets assessed by camera, because those state governments will not agree to reciprocity with DC.

The risk is that you could get booted in DC at some point in the future.

Does this apply to all auto violation tickets in DC - like parking tickets, camera tickets, speeding tickets, etc?

Tolls are an outrage.

Every party loves tolls, funnily enough.

It is just camera tickets, including speed, stop light and stop sign. These tickets are legally not allowed to be sent to collection and DC has no ability otherwise to enforce payment because neighboring jurisdictions will not enforce these tickets on their behalf. Everyone knows they are a scam.

Parking tickets can be sent to collection, so you better pay those unless you want bad credit.
