Chlorine in tap water till May

Anonymous
Anyone read about this and concerned?

From DCist

It's Like a Swimming Pool in Every Glass: WTOP reports that the Washington Aqueduct will be temporarily changing the chemicals it uses to purify the water for D.C., Arlington, Falls Church and parts of Fairfax. Instead of chloramine the system will employ chlorine during a period beginning March 7 and lasting about five weeks. Aside from a more detectable odor the switch shouldn't have any practical effect on consumers, although the story states that some environmental groups think pregnant women should avoid tap water during this period.

With the many and varied problems that DC has had with its water in the 10 years I've lived in the district, pregnant women should probably always avoid it for one reason or another, but especially for peace of mind. I use Drink More for water delivery, it's cheap, reliable and convenient. I don't mean to sound like a commercial but I gave up on tap water several years back because I was sick of worrying.

Many water treatment plants vary the purification chemicals they use seasonally. It just depends on what kinds of bacteria there are in the water each season and what best treats them. That said, this is the first time I've ever heard a warning about pregnant women not drinking chlorinated public tap water. Interesting - I'm going to do more research. I use a Culligan filter (great big under-sink model) for all drinking & cooking water. I know it filters out lead (which we were rightly concerned about on Capitol Hill) and about everything else, and does seem to filter out any chlorine taste. Huh.

I remember reading this a few days ago on here, and today when I tasted our tap water, it is definitely chlorine smelling/tasting.

I am 7 months pg, so am a little concerned about drinking it. We use a Brita, but I don't think that'd filter out the chlorine.

I'll probably switch to bottle water for a while. According to the article linked to above, this will be the case until May 12th.

I'm kinda sad that I need to careful about drinking the tap water here in NoVA.
