Jennie as a full first name?

I do not like Jennifer and won’t name her Jennie if people say I have to name her Jennifer.

Jennie used to be a full name on it’s own.

I loved the name but don’t want my kid stuck with people asking “is that short for Jennifer?” her whole life.

You can do it. But I have a friend named Nickie who has spent her life telling people her full name is not Nicole.

I realize that this may make no sense, but Jenny looks more like a complete, full name to me than Jennie. I don't love the nicknames as full names but I'd use that spelling if so.

Don't do it then. My DJ great grandmother was just Jennie but we didn't name our kids that because exactly what you wrote.

Name her Jennie. It’s a lovely name.

And as an Abbey myself and not Abigail, she’ll answer the question once per curious person (no, just abbey) and that’s it. It’s no big deal.

How about Genevieve or Jeanette?

I’m a Kate (not Katherine or Kathleen) and it’s really not a problem. Sure, I’m asked if it’s short for something but a simple “no” ends it. As a kid and at school is was never a problem and no one ever asked me if my real name was Katherine.

I like just Jennie. There are just Kims, Beths, Tammys, Jills out there. Side note, my husband calls our SIL Jenny "Jenn-AY" like Forrest Gump, which makes me laugh. I also call my daughter Jenny Tremain instead of Johnny Tremain because her toddler ponytail makes her resemble a colonial apprentice.

Look up Jenny in the dictionary and realize you shouldn't pin that on your little girl. Jennifer is nice. Jenny is literally a female donkey. Your alternate spelling does nothing to change that.

Oh, Jesus. That’s absolutely ridiculous!

Jennie Churchill. I love it, OP.

Jennie Garth also just came to mind!

I think it's really sweet! Go for it!

Like my friend Carrie who spends her life telling people her full name is not Caroline. But in the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal.

My three x great aunts were Carrie and Jenny.

I love Jenny. So pretty and I prefer this spelling which I think might be the traditional spelling.

Carrie joined a convent and was re-named Caroline/Sister Caroline - apparently Carrie just Carrie wasn’t proper or formal enough in 1915 for a nun.
