Recommend steam cleaner for couch

Anonymous
Toddler peed on our couch.. I am trying to clean and deodorize as best as I can. I’m also considering a steam clean of the entire couch… can you recommend a steam cleaner for such a purpose? Thank you!

Here’s what you need to do:

1) remove and machine wash any covers that zip off. The one with pee, obviously, but it’s always good to wash them all at once for even fading/wear.

2) were you able to zip a cover off the pee cushion? What’s it filled with? If it’s fluffy poly fill, like a pillow, or down, I would try to get it in a machine. You might need to take it to the laundromat. If at home, use another cushion with it to balance the machine.

If the filling is harder/thicker foam, you might want to just replace it. Start with wherever you bought the couch but you can also try a foam or upholstery shop locally.

3) now you are left with what can’t be removed and washed or replaced. Start by soaking the area in Nature’s Miracle. You can buy a gallon at a pet store or online or maybe at Target or the grocery store. You could sub another enzymatic cleaner, but imo NM is the best. You need the volume of the NM to be at least twice the volume of the pee. Soak, don’t spritz.

4) once that has had several hours to work, it’s time for extraction cleaning. This is “steam” cleaning, it’s just hot water and soap that is applied and vacuumed out. You can do it yourself with a shop vac (apply water mixed with a little tide with a spray bottle) or a bissel spot bot or similar machine (use water and a little tide or buy the cleaning solutions). Or you can pay Stanley Steemer or similar to come with a van-mounted vacuum. They will all work.
