I don't want to buy Starbucks ground coffee. What's another good one?

I like dark, bitter coffee roasts. What is a decent coffee brand?

Do you need it to be available at a regular grocery? Or would you go to a roastery or specialty place to get it? Are you in DC?

Peet’s

I really like Stumptown. You can order it online directly from them but I've seen certain roasts at Whole Foods and Target.

Seattle's Best is good and not expensive. They used to rank them by number, which I liked. The darkest is 5. They have now rebranded with both names and numbers. I also like Verona and Sumatra to give you an idea. I also use Lavazza.

Costco has an extensive selection, both their house brands and others. Hard to beat their pricing and quality is uniformly high.

Peet's Major Dickason blend.
Mayorga
Chesapeake Bay roasting Co. Cattail
Trader Joe's Bay Blend or French roast

Mayorga, sometimes you can order from Costco; they are located in MD. You might want to buy a coffee grinder and get the whole beans.

Harris teeter brand is ok, and goes on sale.

+1 French Roast. We've tried others. Been using this for 20 years. DH likes really dark coffee, and after 20 years, I'm used to it, too. I find others now too weak.

Aldi fair trade dark roast. They also have organic single origin dark roasts.
