Infants, Toddlers, & Preschoolers
I keep hearing that you can feed DC little chunks of what you're eating at the dinner table. I'm wondering about spices, seasoning... for example, if we have rice and beans for dinner, does it have to be totally bland? can an infant/toddler handle salt/pepper, paprika, etc., in amounts that adults would eat?
Dont see why not, after the baby is say 9 mos?
just no jalapenos!
I have only heard to try and limit the salt. We rinse the big people food before giving her some. (except for pizza!)
No way - ew, bland beans? I gave my DD everything, figuring, if Indian babies can learn to eat spicy curries, so can mine! And it worked great. She eats everything. Don't hold back. My mom watches what I feed her (sharp cheeses, Chinese food, pickles, etc etc) and says she wishes she'd done the same thing -- she gave me and my sibs bland food and we grew up very picky, demanding bland food!

Obviously salt is terrible for them, but we give them everything else.

OP here... thanks everyone. I had actually thought of the babies-in-India thing. it's something I bring up to my in-laws when they sniff at our intentions of raising DS vegetarian!
