How to politely decline a club offer?

Anonymous
DC received offers from two clubs after tryouts. We signed up DC for club B before hearing from Club A because DC likes Club B’s coach more. Club A’s head coach is much stricter and DC thought he didn’t get in after the tryout. When I decline Club A’s offer, should I give the reason?

"Thank you for the invitation to join Club A. Larlo has already committed to a different club, and therefore is unable to accept Club A's invitation. Best of luck to Club A for the upcoming season."

No, no need to give a reason. Just say thanks for the offer but kid has decided to do something else.

Thank you so much!

You are overthinking this. They will move on to then next kid and will likely not give your kid a second thought.

You can just tell them you have decided to move in a different direction.

No need to give a reason beyond “we’ve already accepted an offer from club B but thank you so much! DD really enjoyed the tryout- such a great group of girls (or other compliment), best of luck this season!” IMHO politeness and positivity (without offering too much info) is ideal to keep good relations. It’s a small world as you probably know already. Never know about next year!

I would NOT let them know Club B explicitly, just say that you've already made a commitment for the year and appreciate their consideration. They won't think anything more of it.
