Best place to get glasses

Anonymous
Can anyone recommend an optician that carries a good selection of frames? Ideally one that takes VSP because I have a high prescription. NoVA/DC preferred but willing to drive to MD too I guess..

Yes I know about MacPherson’s in Arlington,…in fact bought my kid’s glasses there but I don’t want to pay $1200 for mine since I don’t wear them that often. Last time I tried Warby Parker I couldn’t find any I liked.

Costco or get frame online and see if they will fill the prescription

Can Zenni handle your prescription?

Costco is the best for glasses. Lots of selection, price is low, and they do a great job.

Surprisingly, Amazon. They have lots of closeouts for brand names at big discounts, and you can return if it doesn't fit. You can then take the frame to the optician to do the lenses you need.

Re: insurance. I found that with amazon discounts and out of network reimbursement, it actually ends up cheaper for me than if I used an in network optics store with their crazily jacked up prices for the frames.

I go here and the staff has always been great at helping me select frames that suit my face. They don’t rush you and give you honest opinions. Lots of options, too.

I can’t believe people still buy glasses in the store. I use Zenni.

Did you actually go to Warby Parker or just look online? Going is a much better experience and the glasses looked completely different in person than on the app AR function.

I have to try on glasses and my face is not a good fit for most frames.

I've bought a bunch through Amazon.

Also, Rayban and Oakley directly but try on at a store.

Me too. I typically have to try on 100+ frames before i find anything passable. Small head, big nose. Otherwise pretty attractive so in theory i shouldn't be hard to shop for, but i am. I go to fancy stores and say this and the workers are always "oh that's just because other stores suck and we'll find you one right away!" and then we try on the first 3 pairs and you can see their face shift to confusion about why does nothing look good on this person? And 100 frames later and we are stumped.

If i did something like warby parker, i would end up looking like a clown.

Believing is for things like religion.
So, you don't agree, but who cares?

I just go to Target, but we like Ray-Bans and they have a good selection. Plus, they can send the lenses to the “official” lab that marks them with the Ray-Ban logo. I have a Target card so it’s another 5% off the insurance-subsidized price.

Warby Parker has the best selection and low cost

Small head/big nose here, too. Can you share some of the frames you've liked?
