| Wanted to see if anyone on the forum has had a child (or relative, neighbor, ect) apply and attend Shenandoah for music or theater? Seems like they have strong programs in the arts and I've always been a fan of Winchester. |
| My friend's daughter attended there -she loved it and was in 6 different shows! |
| My child will be looking there for dance. It is well respected in the arts world. |
| I know a ton about the dance program. It’s fantastic. Great faculty. Turns out strong students. Good program. |
My daughter does the dance program at Fairfax Academy. The director was really excited to see this school on my daughter's preliminary list-said basically the same thing. The more and more I hear about ShenCo and the University in general, the more I like it. It sounds like it is an underrated gem. I also ran across another small school with a great theater program in my research - Wagner College on Staten Island. The curriculum for their new dance ed degree doesn't work for my daughter, but it might be another to look at if you are looking for theater programs at small schools. |
| Male drama students can land great theater roles at Shenandoah (there's not enough for some shows). |
| Daughter heading there in a couple weeks, for nursing. As others have said, it is well known for all kinds of performing arts. Their acting department has a couple feature length movies on Netflix. The performing arts building, like the health sciences building, is quite shiny and new. |
| The Conservatory, it's excellent. But then you have to go to Shenandoah Univeristy. I do not respect them for the sciences. An outliner conservative university. |
Is there recent evidence of this? I am curious. ShenCo seems pretty open minded. |
| The school is affiliated with the United Methodist Church—-which probably puts it somewhere in the center politically. |
Ha! Funny. |
| They have really screwed up Winchester with construction. It used to be so easy to get around, now it’s a cluster in every direction. |
Hope you are correct. By the way, for those that may not know, there is a large number of schools affiliated with the United Methodist Church. For example, Syracuse University, Boston University, American University, Duke, and Emory. |

They don’t force students to take religion classes, so there’s that.
And the most recent articles I found in a search sounds like conservative students feel that they are in the minority and need to keep their opinions to themselves. So, it sounds like the reputation may no longer be deserved |
| Some 50% of Julliard grads can't find a job in their chosen field. |
