| Hi! Does anyone know where to find/exchange/withdraw Euros locally? Our bank takes five business days to order them. Many thanks!! |
| We bought from the currency Exchange kiosk at Montgomery mall. |
| You don’t need Euros, just take an ATM card. |
| You don't need any. Just spent a week in Italy and didn't need them even once. |
|
We wait until we land and use our ATM card at the airport.
They were good for small kiosks and taxis etc, for sure needed them. We do not exchange when it's time to return home, they are put away with the passports for the next adventure. |
| I would never take euros with me. |
| Just returned from Europe and a lot of places (seemed the majority to me) were cashless. We went on a cash spending spree to use up with cash we could (yes, I know we could’ve re-exchanged our money, but this was more fun). |
| We have a private transfer that requires cash when we get there. Thanks for the Montgomery Mall tip! |
You will pay more than you would if you hit an ATM upon arrival. |
| TD bank has Euros. Wells Fargo can order them. Takes a week. |
| Just use the ATM at the airport, and select to charge your card in euros, not dollars. Likely a better exchange rate than ordering them ahead of time. You will have 5 minutes to go to the ATM in the arrivals hall and get euros out. Also, what kind of private pre-booked transfer requires cash payment on the spot? |
|
Depending on how much you need, ask on your local list serve. I exchanged about 500 euros last year with someone who needed them.
And we always need euros once we get there. We rent a car and have to pay tolls and prefer to pay cash for small purchases. |
| If you really want euros before you go and don’t just want to use an ATM when you arrive go to Thomas Cook at the airport. I would just use the ATM if I were you though. |
I think you mean Travelex? Thomas Cook is (was) a travel agency, I don't think they had any currency exchange operations, plus a lot of their business ended in 2019, some of their brands/operations got bought out. Anyway, Travelex is an f-ing racket. I was just at Heathrow, getting rid of my last 5 pounds, didn't really care what kind of rate I got. But heard the guy before me get offered 734 euros for 700 pounds, or a rate of 1.0485. Spot rate at the time was 1.17,so it was an over $100 fee. Ridiculous. This is why changing actual cash is almost never a good deal, and why people recommend ATMs. |
Sorry, just under $100 fee. |
