The past couple of weeks have been a grind. I'm looking for a restaurant, maybe with outdoor seating, where my significant other and I can talk and relax for a bit. I don't even care much about the food. I just don't want to shout over loud music and other boisterous diners. Where can we have a leisurely dinner in a pretty and quiet setting?
Thank you! |

Outdoor seating at old anglers inn |

I was also going to suggest Old Anglers - food is meh but setting is great. Likewise Sequoia’s outdoor patio overlooking the water is lovely (on a weeknight when not crowded) but food is meh.
Et Voila and Matisse are quiet restaurants with good food. I haven’t been in years, but Iron Gate in Dupont used to have a lovely patio. |
It still does. This is the first place that came to mind for me. |
+1 |
Me too. The patio at Iron Gate is a respite, service and food are excellent. Not sure about during the heat wave though. |
| Expand your geographic options and go to L'Auberge Chez Francois in Great Falls, which offers outdoor seating as an option. |
Not OP, this looks lovely. Thanks for posting. |

Iron Gate is a good idea. Maybe Black Market Bistro.
If you are willing to drive a little Patowmack Farm might be an option. |

Zinnia in the old Mrs. K's Tollhouse location in Silver Spring: https://eatzinnia.com/ Very positive reports from friends who've tried it.
Indoors but very quiet: the back room (not the bar area) at Black Salt. Bistrot Lepic, downstairs (not the wine bar upstairs). I've been to Iron Gate fairly recently and the setting and food were both lovely. Service was very slow when I was there, but it is a pleasant place to linger so it wasn't that big a deal. |
Was going to suggest Zinnia’s. The gardens are beautiful, food is very good and great service. |

OP here. I want to thank you all for taking the time to reply. Some of these suggestions have been hits for me in the past (Iron Gate, Black Salt), and some I'm very excited to try (Zinnia and Old Anglers). Thank you.
One that I discovered this past year...the outdoor cafe at the Glenstone in Potomac. The food is nothing to get excited about, but I feel like I'm on vacation when I'm there. |
Also recommending Matisse. |
