House Cleaning for the First time

Anonymous
So, I want to try house cleaning people for the first time but really hesitating to call them because, well, house is really dirty (in my opinion). It needs a deep cleaning everywhere. Is it silly to feel this way?

Just get over it. They Are used to it and expect the first time to take longer and cost more. Make sure it’s as picked up as can be so they can get to surfaces.

Just communicate with them ahead of time, and be prepared to pay more.

If you are honest and up front, and they give you an adjusted price based on the degree of dirtiness, then it's fair for you to not worry about it. Let them do their job.

Is there stuff in piles everywhere, or just dirt?

OP, I have always hesitated to get a cleaner because my house was never organized or picked up enough. But I could never clean because I either had time to organize or clean but not both. I think be honest and upfront about the situation. For me it was communicating that I didn’t expect them to clean around the clutter and that by them doing the cleaning I could focus on organizing and overtime it got better. But I get it, it’s hard letting someone into your home for the first time!

They expect to be there longer the first visit than the eye will usually be there. No worries.

Thanks PPs. I will give it a try.

Have them come for an estimate before the first clean. Ask prices for first clean then every two weeks. If you have stuff everywhere, they won’t be able to clean. Most people “clean for the cleaners”.

Watch Auriikatrina on YouTube. You will feel better.

Most cleaners want to start with a deep clean so the weekly visit can be maintenance. You can ask if they divide the deep clean work over the first few visits to spread out the start-up cost.

Perhaps you can get a co. that will offer a free initial estimate.

That way they can see how dirty the house is in person.

Also, it is easier to clean (for them) if you can pick up and organize before they come.

For example if you want them to vacuum the entire living room carpet - it will be much more doable for the cleaners if you pick up everything on the floor first.

+1 OP don't worry how dirty your house is. Call a company, schedule a date, and then pick up your clutter.

If your house is cluttered, you’ll need to clean the clutter first. They can’t clean stuff if it’s covered with junk.

You don’t have to eliminate all clutter. If you don’t have time to declutter right now, but desperately need a cleaning, just make neat piles of your clutter for them to clean around. That’s totally doable for them and you.

Our lovely cleaner spent 8 hrs deep cleaning the first time she came. And we aren't too messy just cluttered. But it was pristine after! She took the time to move all furniture, clear any clutter we left etc etc . Now it takes her team 2 hrs for the whole house biweekly.
