Westbrook > Westland > BCC

How is the Westbrook > Westland > BCC cluster or should I opt for private? If I do private for a few years, is it better to enter Westbrook at grade 3 or 4 or BCC?

Westbrook is excellent, Westland is tepid, BCC is good.

Would it be weird to put my DS in private just for middle school or is that not really a thing

Not really a thing. Usually, it's either private for elementary or private for HS, and probably the former because getting into a top private is harder as the kid grows up.

We plan to do private middle to avoid the Westland wasteland. BCC seems like a great fit for many different kids.

Know at least one family that did private for middle school only. Transition back to public HS was fine, still in the same community as elementary plus had joined travel sports teams, church, etc.

Why is Westland so bad given its feeders are all good elementaries?

Middle schools are generally bad. And it's not like Westland is actually bad. It's just not as stellar like westbrook and bcc.

Don’t you worry that pulling your kid for MS will interrupt friendships? I made all my lasting HS friends in MS.

What is this based on? I am just curious.

This is silly. Westland is a perfectly good, probably better than most, MS. Both my kids went and are now thriving at BCC.

It's smaller than it was a few years ago since the other MS opened. No more overcrowding.

This, Westland's reputation was mostly earned when it was packed with kids coming from all over. The Kensington and Silver Spring feeders now go to the other middle school east of Conn and Westland is all the west county kids. I suspect it will earn a reputation as one of the best if not the best middle school in the county in a few years.

+1

You have to take these posts with a grain of salt. Many posters are just haters and many, for whatever reason, will post unfactual things as factual. Westland is a good school if you look at the data and rankings. I like that the administration is forward-looking and values diversity.

These are comparable to any MCPS schools. In fact, they appear average given their FARMS rate.

Yes, Westland is "perfectly good" but honestly I expected better than "perfectly good." I expected good, if not excellent. It's not.
