Weekend Destination - Celebrate Anniversary - Driving Distance

Anonymous
Any suggestions for weekend destinations, in driving distance, for an anniversary trip? My husband and I are celebrating our anniversary in a couple weeks and my parents volunteered to take care of our daughter for the weekend. My husband and I visited Wintergreen last fall and enjoyed it - I would consider going back but wonder if there are other fun places to explore? I've never been but read mixed reviews on Greenbrier. All suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Greenbrier is much like The Homestead, although a bit more formal (I think it is more interesting than Homestead though). Closer is Little Washington, VA. There are B&Bs there where you can stay, and don't have to pay the expensive cost of Inn at Little Washington rooms (which are so overdone with avocado green tapestry as to be ugly). One is the Foster Harris House, right across the street ... great place, great people running it. Then just have dinner at the Inn, one of the best dinners in the world ... combo of food, service, etc. There are plenty of things to do in the area, including hiking, riding, antiquing, etc. I would pick this over a Homestead or Greenbrier any day. And a much nicer drive.

Other option is something similar around Charlottesville, Monticello.

Middleburg is good, or maybe Bavarian Inn in Shephardstown - get a room with a jacuzzi and bring a nice bottle of wine!
