What to do with dog stuff after dog passes?

Anonymous
We have a zillion dog beds (5 or 6?), toys, blankets, crates, medicine, bowls - you name it we have it. We are going to put our old 10 year old down soon. What do we do with everything? It will be depressing to see it around the house. Do I clean everything and put it away for later use? We plan on getting another dog at some point but not immediately.

Aw, so sorry. If you have space, I’d wash and store crate and dishes and maybe one bed and a couple of toys and leashes. Then check to see whether you could donate the rest to a local rescue or shelter. They can’t take things that are hard to disinfect.

Donate or trash. Start over new.

I would clean it and donate to a shelter, though I have a friend who adopts shelter dogs and she uses the same bed and toys for each incoming pet.

Donate it all to a local shelter or rescue if it's in useable condition. Save a special toy or your dog's collar or something else similar.

I'm so sorry, losing a pet is very hard. Enjoy the time you have left.

Kept the collar and tags, got rid of the rest

I gave most of the items to the rescue where I adopted my dog from.

Clean thoroughly and disinfect first. Then donate to a shelter and/or Trash Nothing website.

I washed everything and then put it in a box in my attic. I know I'll want the scissors, brush, dog bowls, fancy dog bed that matches mine, dog leashes, yard stake (for when we work in the yard), etc. I did trash the dog toys that were gross.

I saved the collar and the one leash I really liked for when i watched other peoples dogs. The rest went to a shelter

Washed (if it was washable) and kept the stuff I knew would work for any other dog. Donated stuff that was for a particular size dog

The leash has seen us through two dogs. A good leather leash is a joy forever

I'm sorry, OP.

I'm so sorry OP. I recently donated my dog's outgrown crate to Lost Dog and I felt good about it. They made it easy and were more than happy with the donation.

If you’re getting a new dog there’s no needed to throw out, just wash and disinfect. Only thing I get new is bed, collar.
