| Is it me or does it seem like the waitlists didn’t move nearly as much? Or is it still early? |
| Our K waitlists have moved a lot. What grade? What schools? Some grades always have more movement, and so do some schools. |
As much as what? Are you comparing to June figures for last year? |
| Our waitlists have moved a ton. |
|
Depends on the school; however, there is a national trend and uptick in chronic absenteeism and kids not showing up in the fall - even in schools that have not traditionally experienced these issues.
I expect three movements on the waitlists now: 1) right towards the end of August, 2) about 3 weeks into school after the mandatory wait period to keep kids on the roll and 3) in October. Looking at trends, even with schools with high demand in PK3, there is a shot if you are waitlisted #1-5. If it's a school with declining enrollment, you may be good #1-20. This isn't unique to DC this year. |
| Ours hasn’t moved much lately for us (prek3). We are at the very end of a bunch of the lists. |
Where are you waitlisted. In-demand charters tend to move very slowly in the summer but can get fast as the first day of school nears and will move swiftly into October. DCPS schools with popular PK programs don't tend to move almost at all for PK3. Charters that are often used as backups for people trying to get into their IB (like Appletree) tend to move in response to other waitlists moving, as people move from their backup to a higher choice school if they get in. If you got a bad lottery draw, you'll watch the lists move a lot but won't get off anything, probably. I remember our PK3 year, most of our waitlist numbers were in the 100s, with several in the 200s. Never even came close on anything but a nearby DCPS that never has a waitlist (which is where we did PK3 -- it was fine). |
A mix of DCPS and charters. We are number 300 something at LAMB, but lower at other schools. We got into a DCPS school we added post lottery that isn’t super convenient commute wise but seems like a good school. I’m hoping for a last minute in somewhere that makes life easier, but not counting on it |
Lists can move quite a bit in the second half of August and in September. If you're under 50 anywhere, you might have a chance. Maybe. |
We got got into Sela. Under 50 for Takoma, Whittier, and Cap City. I’m not holding my breath. |
| October - early October sometimes mid September there will be a jolt |
