Teachers do you check your email over the summer (esp. now in August)?

Anonymous
Curious.
My kid has to email a quick question to a teacher from last year regarding class placement this year.
The teacher is great and my kid and he were on very good terms last year.
Before he sends an email, I was wondering if teachers commonly check their school address on a regular basis over the summer (at least now in August).
The teacher is young and probably email savvy.
Does your school address dump into your personal address or vice versa?
Thanks so much!

Yes, I check my personal email every day. School email? No. I am on my summer vacation.

When do you start checking school email?

Are you serious?

Your dc will likely have to wait until the teacher is back to work, regardless of the terms they were on last year or how email savvy the teacher is.

Different teacher but I’ll probably look once next week and then more regularly (like 2-3 times) the week of August 15.

Forgot to add. Looking is different than replying. I’m not guaranteeing I’ll respond to anything until August 19 or the following week.

I check it just because it goes to my phone and I don’t get much. I may not remember to respond though.

It will really depend on the teacher. Some do check, some don't. It is definitely not an obligation and it will probably depend on personal style. I checked my work email about once a week. I respond to anything extremely important. For a student request of minor importance, I would respond if it was something I could easily answer. If it would lead to hours of work or getting my admin involved, I would probably ignore it until I'm back at work, as I try to deal with leadership at my school as little as possible over the summer.

Do you have email from your work go to your personal email and personal phone? Why is this an expectation for teachers? Particularly over the summer?

NP. I do, but I wouldn’t expect teachers to respond to anything over the summer, unless it was a question about the summer reading or math assignments.

I look at it but only respond if it's truly necessary or a big deal. I do like to keep an eye on it because you never know.

I do.
All emails go to my phone. I check work email every Sat and Sun, as does everyone on my work team.
I check work email if I'm vacationing in the US. I generally don't check it if I'm vacationing abroad.
I'm not expecting this of others but simply reporting in about what I do.

I check at least once a week in case a student has a question about a summer assignment or a request for recommendation or something. I also do projects that are administrative so I check to see updates for that.

Depends on the teacher, I check almost every week day but I also do some things at my school and prepare for the upcoming year.
However, I likely won’t answer unless I think it’s an emergency.
