| Can anybody speak to their experience with a wearable pump? I'm due in a few months with my second and looking into getting one. I have a 45 minute commute and with my first had to pump in both directions, so I'd like to get something easier this time. my traditional pump will be fine for most of my pumping sessions so I'm not too worried about less output during these two sessions but would really like something that is easier to handle in the car than all the wires. |
| I’m sure you’ll get some good personal experience but just going to share that my sister is a physician and has been using the Elvie and it’s been kind of amazing - she does surgery with the Elvie on and then just presses the little button to start pumping when the time comes. She’s been able to exclusively breastfeed while in residency which to me is mind boggling - partly this is just her just do it and don’t overthink personality but the Elvie I think has been a gamechanger. So from watching her I would recommend it! She’s used it a few times while I’m with her and I barely notice. She started with the willow because she inherited one and that didn’t work very well for her. Elvie stride I think she uses. |

I had a willow which didn’t work for me. Very harsh on the nipples and I barely got any output. I finally gave up on the day the willow app told me I had pumped 1.7 ounces but there was NOTHING in the bag.
I hear good things about the baby Buddha (even from low supply moms) but have not personally tried it. |
| Karrie Locher https://www.karingforpostpartum.com/ and on Instagram has some reviews of wearable pumps and is putting together a big comparison at the moment. As much as I don’t want to be influenced, I really love her. |
| thank you everybody!! this has been so helpful |
Please don’t pump and drive with wires and all that nonsense. It isn’t safe for anyone. |
...which is why I said I'm looking for a wearable pump. I had one last time that did not do much other than spill on my lap. thanks for your valuable input! |
| Are you pumping while you are driving? What if you got in an accident. What about people who can see you.? I guess I am a pearl clutcher, but I think this is pretty weird. |
| If you search you’ll probably find a similar post from me, don’t get the Willow there’s a huge learning curve and it is is so so harsh on the nipples it like makes them bleed (ask me how I know…) |
| I loved my Willow. I agree there is a learning curve. The Elvie can’t be jostled when you use it, which is why I decided against it, but it might work for a car ride. |
Yes. It sucks. Given my work hours and the commute, I can’t work around it without it impacting my family’s schedule. I also thank you for your input. |

I had an Elvie! I really liked it. I used it all the time for my second baby even though I had two Spectras and knew that the output was going to be better with those. It was just so much more comfortable and convenient.
My tips: --Get nursing tank tops to use with it. I used the cheaper Bravado ones from Target. This kept the pump tight to my chest and was easier to adjust the straps back to normal when done than a nursing bra. The straps are also thicker and didn't wear out like nursing ones did with all the weight from the milk. --the way Elvie tells you to put the pump together is dumb. So many women get ZERO output from it on occasion and have no idea why. Well if you google Elvie troubleshooting tips, it's probably because the little green plastic spout gets stuck and you have to clear it from the device. Just attach the bottom first, then snap on the top half, problem solved. --Beware of movement when they get full. It can leak (I think Willow claims theirs won't?) I used to pour the milk out into a bottle when it got close to the top and then continue the session. If you're driving, this may be a bit more difficult. |
| Thanks everybody! Seems like I might have to take the plunge and get an elvie…just nervous to do because of the price, but the reviews here are helpful |
Many people do this, it's NBD. I pumped on my morning commute every day with my first |
Yeah the hit from an airbag would totally be NBD while pumping. |
