recent experience at Dulles for 9 pm international flight?

Wondering how bad the situation has been at Dulles for the later evening flights. Trying to figure out how early to arrive. We have precheck.

3 hours.

Early enough to get through check in/security no matter how long the lines, find your gate and then sit and have a drink, people watch and pee before boarding.

Precheck closes at Dulles in the evening, maybe not by the time yo'll be going through though. I had a 1am flight and they used the precheck for security for everyone, but it wasn't precheck. So few flights departing then.

Oh, you're one of THOSE people, PP

3 hours for international. I just flew in and out of Dulles internationally and I needed the 3 hours. Watch out for customs on the way back too - took almost 2 hours!

NP, but for international flights I like to make sure I make the flight. For domestic I’m fine with an hour or whatever, especially pre Covid.

These days, why risk it? Nothing wrong with making sure you actually make the flight. The stress isn’t worth it.

You needed 3 hours for departing Dulles? Why?

Just flew out at 9pm the other night for an international flight. There were zero people in line at security which was amazing. We arrived 3.5 hours early though as we had to park in long term parking and deal with the shuttle and always err on the side of caution

2 hours was more than enough. We turned up three hours before but it was a waste of time.

Same. Arrived at 7:30 for a 10:20 flight band just sat around. No line at tsa precheck.

At least you can relax and get some food/drink if you arrive three hours early (worst case). Best case, you needed that time. Far better than the return trip when you have to wait three hours for your peoplemover to fill up and drive to customs at electronic-scooter speed.

It's been fine recently (I have CLEAR, so your experience would probably be similar).

I had a 10:20 flight 7/12 and arrived 3.5 hours in advance because we planned on getting dinner, just taking our time with the kids going through. WAY WAY too early and the only restaurant was so packed, I’m pretty sure most of those people got the rona.

I would have brought my own food and grabbed drinks instead…food sucked there.

We flew out of Dulles, Monday July 18, 2022. We were dropped off at the entrance at 6:30pm, dropped our bag at pre check, when through TSA Pre and were sitting in the United Polaris lounge by 7:10. We were headed to Heathrow. The lines everywhere were light.
