| My son will be starting at an MCPS elementary school in 3rd grade this year. I'm registering him for the school in our neighborhood amd have checked the website but can't find too much info. How does one join ParentVue? How is the free tutoring that's offered? Is there summer work that is recommended? How do I join the local list serve? |

Once your child is registered (and the school enrolls him) you will get Parentvue login info.
Most schools have summer packets posted on the website but maybe this has changed since COVID. My kids are older now but we never did the packets and it wasn’t an issue with the teachers so if you can’t find the info, don’t sweat it. Our ES had a link to the PTA on the website. Before school starts, you will definitely get communications on how to join and how to get added to the listserv. Ours had a PTA FB group, so try searching FB if you don’t want to wait. |
| The free virtual tutoring is through tutor me and you sign up online once you are registered and you get a child account. |

You might also ask on your neighborhood Facebook group or listserv about school Facebook groups you could join. Our PTA used to organize a back-to-school popsicle social at the public park near the school, usually the weekend before school started.
Most schools post class lists at the school on the Friday (typically) before school starts, which is also a good way to at least see the school, even if you can’t do a full tour. Ask when you register, or check the website in August for information. Some schools also send a postcard the week before that lists your child’s teacher, but I’d still go to the school on the day the lists are posted. Ours always had tables set up with information about aftercare, signing up for the PTA, etc. And you and your child might get lucky and have a chance to introduce yourselves to another family in your class if you’re finding names on the list at the same time. My kid always wanted to see who would be in her class, even though she knew who her teacher would be. |
| If you mention the school, you will get better info. |
