I am considering investing in a reformer for home use. For those that have one at home, how often do you use it? |
I’ve been a Pilates instructor for 20 years and have had lots of clients but reformers only a rare few use them without paying an instructor to come to their house. |
Thank you for your reply! What would you say is the going rate for a private instructor to come to my house? I moved here recently from a southern state where the going rate was around $90 a hour. |
I charge $100/session for people who live in my neighborhood and $165 for people I drive to. But I’m not hustling for clients. You could probably strike up a friendship with a young teacher whose class you like at a studio and approach her on instagram or somewhere (not through the studio) and offer $100/session even with a bit of a commute. |
Thanks so much! Appreciate your input! |
Does anyone have an experience with using the allegro 2 at home? I recently was taken off the waitlist and was considering purchasing it. |
I have one. It’s beautiful and easy to use but I’ll be honest and tell you it is a very very expensive paperweight. I used to take 2-3 private lessons a week in a studio and assumed I would use it at home. I’d think long and hard about whether you’ll use it. |
Serious question: why would you pay $100+ per workout? I don’t get it. |
Some people choose to get their nails done every week, hair highlighted every few months, purchase expensive cars.. I choose to invest in my health. To each their own. Not only have this dramatically improved my physical health but also my mental health. |
also this wasn't a slight against how other people spend their money more just to highlight that we all value different things and it's okay! |
If you have experience on the reformer, there are a number on online Pilates classes. Pilates Anytime, Pilatesology (? correct spelling), Balannced Body has one - for a fee. There are also pretty good You Tube sites. If you do other exercising on your own, and you have tried Pilates before and like it, would think that is a good indication you would follow through. Was happy I had gotten one just prior to pandemic. Used it throughout. Think it is the Allegra 2. Got in t without the leg extensions, cut putchased those soon after. |
If you already are experience on reformer pilates you do not need an instructor. I do it on my own every other day. Like someone else said there are plenty of video options. I like speir pilates, look at her instagram to get an idea of what she does in her videos. |
Thank you so much! I do have a lot of experience taking classes and privates. I’m thinking I’ll just hire someone for a few sessions to help me create a routine on the machine at home and then use some of the video options to maintain the workouts. |
This is more money than a gym membership for an entire month. Or a physical therapy session (if you are doing Pilates in hopes of improving an injury) with someone with a graduate or post graduate degree in physical therapy. Or a personal trainer. Especially if you are using your own equipment, what exactly are paying $160/session for? |
How much it costs really depends on how often you take advantage of the service, and you’re paying for convenience. A lot of people would be aghast at the idea of paying to have grocery delivery, but because you probably know people who make well above median US salary you don’t think it’s nuts to pay for it. |
