We just had Bethesda Crab House this week and the larges were tasty and meatier than expected. However the waitstaff casually mentioned that due to new fishing restrictions they had non-local crabs mixed in and they couldn't actually tell us what we received!!!

That’s not uncommon. Many restaurants serve crabs from Thailand and Indonesia. It’s the same species as the blue crab.

For crab cakes, yes, but not for hard shells. The Asian swimming crab looks completely different from blue crabs whereas Chesapeake vs. Gulf hard shells look identical to one another.

Are those your only choices, because neither. But if they’re your only choices Bethesda Crab House because the bathroom sitch at Quarterdeck has to be illegal and completely out of zoning regulations. God forbid someone need ADA accomodations.

I kind of agree with this. The owner/cooks at BCH have been so nice to me and my kids over the years...they used to let the kids see the crabs live in the back. However, I find both places overpriced and the crabs come out mealy most of the time. I'd rather bite the bullet and go to Annapolis or Deale MD. Skipper's Pier is 50 minutes away from Chevy Chase and has great outdoor seating and better crabs at better prices.

May’s in Frederick is good. Also several crab houses in Southern Maryland.
