All these Libby books — help me choose

Anonymous
6 months of books on hold, now all available — which to read first, or let go to to next on waiting list. Looking for a little more than a flimsy beach book but also not looking for stress, abuse, maudlin or morose.

The Dinner List
Act Your Age, Eve Brown
Modern Lovers
Sorrow and Bliss
Summer Island
The Guest List

Sorry I haven't read any of these but empathize with the problem of all the holds being ready at once.

When this happens I read the first 5 or so pages of each and start w whatever one grabbed me the most. Happy reading!

I don't recommend The Guest List.

I really liked Sorrow and Bliss but it is pretty heavy and maybe not what you are looking for now.

Library?

Modern Lovers is good. I still remember it from reading it a few years ago and I read a ton of books.

Library?

No. It’s an app that public library uses. You can download audiobooks or e-books for free. There’s usually a long waitlist for the most popular ones.

My Libby App is always a HOT MESS. Where I live, I have reciprocity with three other library systems, so that means I have four local library cards. Plus I have a card where our mountain house is and one where my family's beach house is. So I always have like 20 books checked out at once.

Do you have any old Kindles lying around? If you download a book to the Kindle and then turn the WiFi off, the book won't disappear after the return date until you turn the WiFi back on. That's a good tip for if the fates conspire against you timing-wise. (This does not impact the next person on the list at all . . . they get the book when they should.)

I couldn't get into the Chloe/Eve Brown books but if you've liked the previous ones then that could be a good one. I always enjoy a fun modern romance.

Normally I really like Emma Straub but I see I gave the Guest List a higher rating (4 stars) than Modern Lovers (3 stars), so it must not have been my favorite.

I haven't read the others on your list. When I'm trying to decide on a book I'll check out the Good Reads reviews. If there are friends who tend to have similar tastes to you on there, then you can get a sense of whether you might like it.

Libby allows you to get your hold later without getting back in line. Just pick one and do that to the rest.

This. Or you could download a few then turn signal off until you’re finished. If you’re in airplane mode they’re accessible until you turn that off.

Modern Lovers is a great novel and definitely fits the parameters you've laid out - smart and well-written but not overly intense. Emma Straub is an excellent writer.
