| If I don't use my hair dryer/straightener my hair will look like a mushroom. But I can't figure out what I need to buy to step down the voltage. I'm traveling to S Africa which looks like has a Type M plug/220 voltage. Can any more experienced travelers help me out with what I need to buy? |

Is your hair dryer dual voltage? If so, just an adapter. Otherwise get a converter, but be prepared for it not to work as well.
|
| Thanks everyone, it doesn't say that it's dual voltage...just says 120V on the dryer. I will get the converter and thanks for the link! |

You're going to fry your dryer. It's just how it is, those travel converters never work well.
Use what is available to you where you're going and embrace looking less perfect. |
| You really need to figure something else. Wear a hat or slick it back in a pony tail. |

| Buy an inexpensive equivalent once you're there. |
| The Revlon dryer is not dual voltage. Get a cheap dual voltage hair dryer, and just turn the screw and get a plug adapter for the country you’re going to. Embrace barrettes and clips, and go to a local salon for a blowout. You also may be able to buy a local one when you are there. |
| Are you staying in hotels? If so, there should be a hairdryer in the bathroom. |
| My blow dryer almost blew up in France when I tried to use it with a converter. They did sell the revlon brush thingy in France in a store with the correct euro plug. I have no idea if they sell it in S Africa but you could try to buy one there. |

I lived in South Africa. They sell blow dryers and every hotel provides one.
- Saw a friend's blow dryer explode in her hand in Istanbul (using an adapter) |
| I’ve destroyed two hair dryers using an adapter, having not learned my lesson the first time. Virtually all hotels have hair dryers now. You’re going to have to come up with a new hair strategy. |

Actually I would bank on the hotel having a hair dryer, but buy this straightener.
