Sports in Frost/Wootton Area

We are moving into the area and DC is joining 7th grade. He is interested in soccer and cross country. Does any one have any recommendations? He is not supper athletic and is looking to have fun.

MSI has 3 levels of teams: rec, travel and classic (a step up from rec with a tryout but not crazy competitive). Try them if you want rec or classic sounds like a good fit. For travel, a lot of the kids will play for Bethesda and Potomac Soccer. MSI has a smaller travel program.

City of Rockville has a great track and field and cross country program. It is big but a great way to meet people and very accepting of kids who just want to have fun. My non-athletic kid had a good time with it.

In soccer, my general recommendation would be to try out for some Classic teams (that 'middle' level mentioned above). The tryout process (which usually means practicing with the existing team) will give you/him a sense of whether it is the right level. If not, you can sign up for an MSI rec team and they will place you on a team that has spots open.

That said, most tryouts were in the spring, but there are inevitably still Classic teams looking to fill their rosters; those will have some last minute tryouts in late August.

You can get more information at: https://www.msisoccer.org/

Also, Frost will have cross country and soccer teams for 7th graders (on tryout basis)-- check the school's website (I don't know about Frost but at our school you really have to dig around to find info).

Our DCC MS has various IM teams for soccer, cross country etc, so guessing it's common but don't know about Frost.

I wouldn't count on intramurals unless you speak with parents at the same school. Our school tries to do this each year, but often doesn't have enough kids signing up to actually do it. (In fact, even one of the main 'tryout' sports didn't have enough kids to field a team this year.
