Family car to Car for MOM

Anonymous
Long trips to games/tournaments and family trips are almost over so I am looking to downsize my vehicle. I currently have a 3-row Buick Enclave which I love but feels too big.

Did you change your family car? What did you get?

My kids (2) and DH are tall ,so I'm looking for something spacious but not too big.

I bought myself a 5.7L V8 hemi just before I divorced 2 years ago. Packed my stuff in it as soon as my divorce was final and hit the road, took my kid with me. Just turned 50 last month. Had a lot of awesome races over the past two years. I buy my cars for the adrenaline rush, the thrill of hitting that throttle, the smell of the exhaust, the freedom of feeling the wind in my hair and the peace in my soul when I take it from 0-100 on a back road. Buy the vehicle that speaks to you, OP. My car is an extension of myself. A part of me. My ticket to anywhere I want to go, anytime I please.

Perhaps look at one of the small Lexus SUV type vehicles like a 350? That will give you the head and leg room for the taller people and the car is smaller. I haven't ever seen an Enclave to be honest but the picture when I googled it didn't make it seem that oversized tbh.

Our family car is a Suburban, which feels mammoth to me, and my mom car is a Honda CRV. I like it and recommend it but if you've been driving a Buick, then I don't think you would like a Honda.

The Enclave is what Reese Witherspoon drives in Big Little Lies. I have one child who is about to leave for college and I drive a Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit edition. It's the car that Caroline drives in Last Tango in Halifax. I love it and don't plan to buy something smaller. Like the PP's car, it's a Hemi V8 and it is fun to drive. It's also got 4x4 and can ford rivers, which I've done several times.

I’m not downsizing until the last one is done with college. Moving in/out is no joke and I don’t want to have to do a rental or a trailer each time.

I would never downsize. I might buy another car but not give up an suv. No way.

Consider all your needs and your preferences. Do you like being able to put cargo in the back of a SUV, or is the trunk and back seat of a sedan ok? Do you prefer the elevated seating position of a SUV or are ok with the lower seating in a sedan or coupe? Do you prefer a compliant, perhaps even plush ride, or a well-controlled suspension which is firmer but which provides taut, more secure-feeling handling? Is acceleration performance important to you? How about fuel efficiency? Do you need the relatively carefree extended range capability of a gas engine, or are you interested in a hybrid or fully electric vehicle? How much are you willing to spend? Do you want your vehicle to make a statement about your economic/social status, or perhaps about your personality/self-image (boy racer, rugged off-roader, look-at-me)? Lots of considerations can factor into your choice beyond simply interior size.
