| Looking for a good, optometrist or optician that specializes in high prescriptions (really high). Northern Virginia. Thank you. |

I'm at a -12 with astigmatism. Is that strong to you?
My family sees Northern Virginia Ophthalmology Associates in Falls Church. Their optometrists are Dr Vu-Gia and Dr Tran, we've been pleased with both. |
+1 for Northern Virginia Ophthalmology Associates. I see Dr. Vu-Gia too (I see her at their Fair Oaks location) and I am in the same prescription range as PP. I wear RGP lenses. Both Dr. Vu-Gia and Dr. Tran are great. |
| 3rd for Northern VA opthamologist and Dr. Vu-Gia. I am -16 and wear scleral lenses. Wore RGP for years. Scleral are more comfortable. |
| Btw Dr. Vu-Gia is a Caucasian woman. I didn't expect that. I thought she was Asian. |
| Dr. Teser at Associates in Eyecare in Dunn Loring - I have a very high prescription with a few added complications and there aren't that many lenses available that work for me. But they always make note of when something new is released that might be a good fit for me and order samples before my appointment so that I can take them home to try. |
| I've had good luck at Eye Doctors of Washington for my strong prescription if you don't mind trekking into downtown DC rather than NOVA. Jennifer Luckie is a good optometrist there... |

I had -9 astigmastism over 15 years ago. I had the thickest glasses ever, even after thinning it out. They had contact lens for that. I'm sure they have better ones now.

Hijacking the thread because I rarely see people with worse eyesight than me
I had RGP for almost 30 years but was getting dry eyes. Eye doctor said the oil glands were almost gone. I switched to daily disposables with are SO comfortable but my eyesight is nowhere as clear and crisp as RGP. How do Scleral compare to RGP with regards to dry eye comfort? |
I'm 12:59 and had the similar issue. Wore RGP for 35yrs before middle age dry eye had me switch over to dailies. Optometrist said my eyesight is so bad plus the astigmatism they simply can't get me to 20/20 in soft lenses. I've adapted, having readers handy for the evenings or more dimly lit environments but it's a pain. |

You could try a low vision specialist. Dr. Alibhai was recommended to me by both my glaucoma and retina specialists: https://www.lowvisionservices.org/meet-the-doctors.html
My eye issues are apparently very unusual, so we haven't fixed them yet, but I appreciated the fact that he was the first person to ever show interest in the quality of my vision and how it affects my life, as opposed to acuity on an eye chart I've seen a million times. He really takes the time to listen . |
| My vision is -9/-8 with astigmatism so not as bad as some here but still pretty bad. I’m in daily contacts now too, CooperVision My Day. I had RGP lenses for awhile, but started to get too much dry eye from them and a previous ophthalmologist I was seeing outside of this area recommended switching at least to bi-weekly’s, if not dailies, which is what I did. I do think I saw better out of the rigid gas perm lenses but the dailies are much easier on my eyes. Right now I’m just going to an optometrist but I imagine I’ll have to switch to the ophthalmologist if I start having more eye problems. |
I'm one of the PPs who used to wear RGP and now I'm in My Days, too. The other soft lenses were even blurrier. I'm worried because I'm a -11.5 and My Days only go up to -12, so if I have any more changes in eye sight, I might need to find something else. Maybe by then it'll be time to embrace the coke bottle glasses. |

hello to the strong prescription tribe (-10 checking in here). I use total dailies after my eyes rebelled against regular lenses after 20 years. (Also a lot of dry eye.)

I think I’ve found my tribe! I wear soft lenses and my vision just isn’t clear. Even with soft lenses, I have terrible dry eye. I have to wear readers on top of my contacts. I hate my glasses because even with the titanium frames and the lightweight lenses, they are still so heavy.
At my last appt, I asked about lens replacement. I’m not there yet but I’m starting to do the research. |
