| Just a PSA that if you have student loans and are eligible for PSLF you can consolidate your loans with the Parent PLUS loans you have taken out for your kid(s). The PLUS loans will then have the same eligible payment count as your direct loans and once you hit 120 the balance on both direct loans and PLUS will be forgiven. |
| Proposed by the current administration to get people to vote Dem. Absolutely fluff. Won't happen. I was a senior lawyer at the Department o f Education. |
It's not proposed, it's happening now. https://studentaid.gov/manage-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/public-service/questions Are Direct PLUS Loans eligible for PSLF? Yes. Direct PLUS Loans are made to graduate or professional students and to parents of dependent undergraduate students. Like other Direct Loans, Direct PLUS Loans are eligible for PSLF. However, there are additional factors to consider if you are a parent who has taken out a PLUS loan. First, your PSLF eligibility is based on your qualifying employment, not on the employment of the dependent student on whose behalf you borrowed. Second, PLUS loans made to parents may not be repaid under any of the income-driven repayment plans, the repayment plans that are best for borrowers seeking PSLF. However, if you consolidate a PLUS loan that you took out on behalf of your child, you may then repay the new Direct Consolidation Loan under an income-driven repayment plan called the Income-Contingent Repayment Plan. You can’t repay under the Revised Pay As You Earn, Pay As You Earn, or Income-Based Repayment plans. Note: PLUS loans made to graduate and professional students (as well as Direct Consolidation Loans that repaid PLUS loans made to graduate and professional students) may be repaid under any of the income-driven repayment plans. |
Really? This seems like a pretty obscure way to try and fire up the base. |
You are a true idiot if you think this is going to happen. Can you not see this was all a shell e to win vote for the election? THAT's ALL IT WAS. And even if passed it will only go VERY SELECTIVE GROUP. You will not benefit. This is Politics 101 |

Do you understand that the above is current policy? Are you just messing with us? I am truly confused, because the link is to studentloan.gov and clearly describes current policy. Your comment is like saying the sun doesn't exist because you don't like being hot. |
| umm, whether you want to acknowledge it is the current policy and actually happening, or not, doesn't change reality. |
Clearly emphasis on *was* a sr attorney. Probably fired for incompetence. |

Can someone with real life experience answer this?
If I have a public interest job and take out PLUS loans for children (3) in college, and make 10 years of payments (based upon 20% discretionary income) can the balance on those loans be forgiven after 10 years? |
