Possibly a silly question. But we had planned to do DCPS pre k 3, but our fall plans have changed.
I'd really like DD to start something in the mid-year. Because we were planning on DCPS we didn't explore any other options. And are totally new to this! Are there schools that accept kids mid-year? Does it depend on a wait list? Any recommendations? Thank you! |
Some of the small private schools may have space. Would you consider private or only looking at public options? |
Yes. Two of my kids have started mid-year at a private preschool. This area is pretty transient and there is a lot of movement on waitlists, even after the school year starts. Both of my kids started in late fall, but I know my son’s class a few years ago had one child leave and another start around January. |
Yes, mostly due to families moving out of the area...though if it comes up before you need it you may have to pay to hold the spot. |
Also, some schools may have a "drop dead" date for not accepting new students. I work at a small preschool and we take children mid-year all the time, provided we have openings. However, we won't enroll someone after March 1st even if we do have openings. The preschool where I work is a traditional half day program that runs Sept - May. |
Takoma Children's School (Takoma DC) has 1 or 2 spaces now. Not sure if they'll have space mid year. |
