What's special Ed like in FCCPS?

Anyone with kids on the autism spectrum in ES within Falls Church City?

I don't have personal experience but have heard good things from friends.

The small size is a benefit. You will really get to know SPED administrators, committee members, etc. Senior staff is pretty accessible.

The drawback is that all SPED is kind of lumped together, while larger districts have specific programs for disabilities. Like whole classes of ASD.

My ASD kid did well and is off to college.

I have 2 kids on the spectrum, both with ADHD and other comorbities. They are going into 1st and 3rd and while we are new to Oak Street (3rd-5th grade), we've had a really amazing experience at Mount Daniel. The IEP process for both of my kids was great. The special ed administrator for MD is fantastic, full of great ideas and all about supporting as best she can. We've had a great experience with the special ed teams. Our kids have really benefited from several of the specialists on staff. They really get our kids and are willing to work with them. It's been a very good experience and I don't feel like we've missed out on anything in a bigger district.

Bringing back this old discussion - anyone have experience with how they help with a dyslexia diagnosis. My son was diagnosed recently.

Also wondering how they handle kids with significant physical needs, like CP.

You should go ask this on the special needs forum.

DP but I have asked this on the special needs forum before and got no replies. I think casting a wider net here is appropriate.

I'm also interested in special education in FCCPS and would welcome any insights.
