Teacher question

We moved and the registar sent an email with instruction to send her docs to register for school. It’s been about a week and I haven’t gotten a confirmation of the email or notification for who their teachers will be. I don’t want to be annoying, it’s still summer, when would you try to contact? Would they have the teacher placement by now? I don’t want to be annoying!!

I've never worked somewhere that you'd know the teacher by now.

You won’t find out the teacher until a few days before school starts. I’d ask for confirmation that you’ve turned in everything she needs, then sit tight until school starts. There should be a way to sign up for the school newsletter via email to make sure you don’t miss anything else.

Relax. They will have a teacher. That is all you need to know right now.

They will have someone in their classroom. It may not be a teacher though. My son’s school is short 6-7 teachers and school starts in a month.

Teachers don't even know their class lists right now. We won't get those until a day or two after we go back in August.

When I was teaching in ES, kids found out several days before classes start (right after teachers found out). When I was a parent, we found out on the first day of school. Now THAT sucked. FCPS, of course.

Most schools do not let parents know who their kids teacher is because there can be last minute changes. Plus, there are fewer requests to change teachers by parents.
Many years ago, I was hired by my current school district two days before student attendance began. Parents were freaked out but honestly, we had such a lovely year.

We’re just too big and fluid here to announce teachers until a few days before school starts. I have a friend who lives in a tiny rural town and on the last days of school they actually walk up and visit the teacher they will have the following school year. That kind of blew my mind…but I can see how if that is what you came from you might expect to know your teacher by now. The only people here who know are people who’s teacher is looping, because they always ask if you want to loop. That’s pretty rare though.

You do sound annoying already.

My school was down 8 homeroom teachers, 1 specials teacher, and a AP at the end of the year. That is a lot of positions to fill.

And, I agree with others - lists aren't sent out until about a week before school starts.

I have taught at independent schools for over a decade and we find out our rosters between 1-2 weeks before school, depending on the school. Then there is a few days for teachers to check lists and make sure the school didn’t make mistakes with placements or known bad dynamics and only then do parents who email get information. Full release of rosters is a few days before school.
