CA Universities Reinstating Indoor Mask Mandates

Anonymous
UC Irvine and UCLA are bringing back indoor mask mandates. Will other schools follow suit? Have any of you heard anything from your kids' universities regarding the mask policy for the fall?

Unclear that will last until fall. It's probably the height of the variant surge right now. (I live in CA so have been watching.)

"UC Riverside requires the non-vaccinated to wear masks inside, and vaccinated to wear face coverings in “high-risk” situations."

Not this again.

What is the reasoning behind this? At this point, it makes no sense. Either masks for all, or masks for none.

Are our public health officials just simply anti-science?

Or is it just laziness? They don’t want to come up with a better policy, so they just reuse the one they had earlier? Or, maybe they just don’t plan to enforce anything anyway, so this lets people do with they want, while pretending that the university is actually doing something. I can’t make sense of it.

I’m sure the surge will hit other states eventually. NY often follows what CA does. Maybe we’ll be seeing similar mask mandates at SUNY schools.

All schools should, freshmen getting sick during first semester is as common as little kids getting sick during their first months in daycare. With shared living, its tough to manage hand/nose/mouth hygiene.

I got strep so many times in my freshman year...looking back, I wonder if people were a little more aware like we are today and wore masks when they were sick, if things would have been different.

So absurd. They'll require masks in classrooms and as soon as students leave class, the mask comes off. This does absolutely nothing except annoy everyone.

Wait, what? Are you two PPs proposing that freshmen should be required to mask indoors during various outbreaks, like strep or the flu? So universities can mandate mask wearing whenever they choose?

I’m sure the UC schools all mandated vaccines and boosters already. So, this does seem absurd.

You are anti science if you don’t mask.

But this doesn’t sound too bad? What are those high risk situations where everyone MUST mask? Sounds more like lip service

Indoor masking to keep professors and vulnerable students save.
