I don't know if it's the weather and all the rain, but in the past week there's been a surge of big black flies outside the house. I've looked for possible dead animals and don't see any. Is this just their time? Like they're in sync with all the crabgrass sprouting?

| Yes! It's gross. |
| Me too. A few have gotten inside too. So annoying. |
| Yes. This happened last summer, too, and we chalked it up to cicadas (predators were feasting in cicadas, so other bugs were able to explode their populations). But here we are again! |
| Yep. Been killing a couple a day. |
| Oh, happy to hear it's not just us! |
|
No. Just a surge of MOSQUITOES.
I hate them. |

OP here - thanks for the confirmation that others are seeing this! Every time I go out the front door, I feel like I'm confronted by 10 big flies within the first 10 steps. I don't recall this the past couple of years.
They must have hatched somewhere, unfortunately. Ugh. No standing water, unless they found a home in the gutter downspout. Gross! Shoo fly shoo! |
This. No big flies but a lot of those horrible tiger mosquitoes. The ones with the sharp stings and they itch forever once you're bitten. |
| Yes! Lots of big flies! Glad I’m not the only one! |
| Sounds like a NOVA thing. No issues in MD. |
| SO many flies. The biting kind, too. Can’t sit outside peacefully. (Really no mosquitos, though!) |
| We have so many! It is so gross. |
lol |
| Yes…best with Old El Paso hot salsa! Mmm!! |
