| For prospective freshman players, what's an average score needed for a round to make the team? Thanks. |
| Which school? |
| OP here ... to clarify, by the time a boy is a freshman, what would be the typical score to qualify for a team? DC+MD side schools possible. |
| Totally depends on the school. |
| For some schools, there’s not a certain score you need. You will be put on JV team instead of being cut. |
| I heard 81 |
| My kid never golfed before and was on the team. Pretty sure he was shooting double par and ending the round. He had a blast though. |
|
WCAC Golf team scores in the 70s.
Depends on the school & year |
| I wouldn’t worry about it too much. Most kids who are that serious are actually on a club type team bc they want to be recruited. The rest are just average players. We were told at an open house that beginners are welcome. |
| Some schools cut and have very strong teams, others don’t. Look how the IAC and WCAC teams stack up against one another. The top teams will be highly competitive with kids qualifying for big tournaments like USGA Junior Championships and boys scoring in the low 70s. Top schools will also have students who are recruited to play in college and alumni who are now professionals. Georgetown Prep comes to mind as an example and they even have their own 9 hole golf course on campus. |

So in looking at https://www.wcacsports.com/sports/golf/2021-22/schedule I can see match ups but not really what kids scores are. And assume those are varsity players.
Could a newish player participate in JV golf at the WCAC schools? Do DeMatha, SJC, Gonzaga cut freshman? Thank you. |
Yes, Gonzaga has cuts on the golf team. |
| If you can't break 100 it will start to get awkward. |
| The best players are in the low 70s consistently. To make varsity on a top team like Gonzaga or Prep and play in tournaments, my guess is you would have to be scoring in the low 80s to 70s. |
| Break 40 for nine holes |
