Covid at delivery

Anonymous
Does anyone know what happens if you deliver while sick with Covid?

I asked my doctor what the protocol was, and he said you just have a special labor room. I’m having a c section so it’s not really relevant. He didn’t know about whether the baby can go to the nursery.

I’ll be delivering at Sibley…and not until Sept, just curious!

Why do you think you’ll have covid in Sept?

I can't speak to Sibley but when I delivered at GW last winter, babies of Covid-positive mothers were not allowed in the nursery and the restrictions on support people were stricter (support people could not go in and out and had to stay in the pp room). Also, I think they were stricter about enforcing masking rules if you were covid positive; masks were kind of optional in your own room if you had a negative covid test at triage, although all the medical staff wore them.

But these regulations do change pretty frequently, so I would ask your OB again or call the hospital and ask a few weeks before you delivery.

This is OP. I don’t think I’ll have covid in Sept…just curious what’s going on now so I’m mentally prepared.

I have a friend now who is pregnant with covid and two weeks from delivery!

Someone pregnant with covid said their OB said to focus on hydration because covid dehydrates you quickly and it could impact amniotic fluid levels. Info is several times removed, so can’t vouch for the accuracy, but figured hydration is always good covid or not!
