| Seems like it is if they've elected Hogan twice and David Trone is about to lose his house seat. |
|
No.
Not even remotely. Democrats have gerrymandered the state for years, even more effectively than Republicans in Wisconsin. The state is firmly blue. Hogan is just a reaction to that blueness and the only way the Eastern Shore and Western MD can actually influence MD politics. Not to mention that whiny Millennials keep moving here in droves. |
| Blue states often elect moderate republican governors. This isnt new. |
| Maryland is gone for good. If you’re a republican or a common sense moderate, move to Virginia and help the cause there, they’re fighting a political battle of a lifetime. |
| Is Massachusetts a purple state? |
I thought that Hogan recently undid part of the Democratic gerrymandering? |
Texas, North Carolina, Alabama, Louisiana, and Florida are the real gems of Gerrymandering in the US |
A court did. It is why the primary election was delayed until July. |
And Wisconsin |
Blue states need to redraw lines, red states get to proceed with current lines while cases are pending. |
| Nope! |
|
No. The legislature has a super majority in both houses and can override vetos. For many people, they want a Republican governor that can give at least mild checks and balances against the supermajority. This way, the legislature needs enough votes to override a veto to be sure that it really should be legislated.
Second, MD has always been a solid blue state. Every election anywhere other than Western MD and Eastern Shore is an election for Democrats to lose. The two times in recent memory that the Democrats lost the governors mansion were when they submitted two incompetent Lt Governors, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend and Anthony Brown. As long as the Democratic party picks a halfway competent candidate, the Democrats should win. |
| The red wave here will bring in more moderate democrats rather than progressives. But that's all. |
I forgot, also the not-ready-for-prime-time Ben Jealous. |
This. If MD Dems can nominate someone that A. actually tries to campaign (ie NOT Anthony Brown) and B. is not super progressive (ie NOT Ben Jealous), they can win the mansion back. In fact, they have a good shot at it, especially if Cox gets the GOP nom. If its Schulz, it'll be harder for them |
