Friendship Heights Whole Foods

Anyone been to the new Whole Foods in Friendship Heights yet?

Yes, I went today on opening day. There were some glitches that will work themselves out as people learn their roles, so that's OK.

But the parking lot is utter HELL, totally nonsensical, and is enough to make me never want to shop there again because that's a design flaw that will never be remedied.

True story: I was told that you cannot push your grocery cart to your car to unload. That's the current rule. You either carry your bag(s) in your hands, OK, or you must leave your cart and drive back to Parcel Pickup and get out again and load your bags in your car.

I can't recall if Georgetown Whole foods limits carts in the parking garage. But i love the system with the conveyor belt!

That's how it works at WF in River Road. They do have a very helpful staff that helps you if needed.

Yes, but the store calls itself "Georgetown". Don't you hate that? I live in GP and hate when people call it "North Georgetown".

Me too! I went yesterday and it was a madhouse. Even so, the checkout lines went really quickly - I love the checkout counter announcing system. I remember it from the one we used to go to in Manhattan. It works really well and keeps things organized and moving along.

The layout was very intuitive and easy to get around. Seemed like there was more prepped stuff and lunch/deli counters, which would make sense for the area.

The only WF's I know in the area where you can push your cart out to the parking lot is the one in Fairlakes. The ones in Reston, Rockville and the Kentlands have barricades up to prevent the carts leaving. And yes, the staff will help you with your bags.

You can take your cart to the car at Tenleytown and River Road.

I went this morning; there was hardly anyone there, but it's huge and really nice. I especially like the wide selection of food you can buy ready to eat (burgers, sandwiches, ribs, pulled pork, etc.), the coffee bar, and the huge hot food bar. I wonder if they'll get enough business to justify such a large store.

There is staff in the parking garage to help you with all of your groceries. They were super friendly and loaded all the groceries in the back of my car, so I didn't even need to get out! I understand why they don't want carts taken all over the garage: the garage is HUGE and it would be impossible for their staff to locate all those wandering carts. I also saw one of the employees take a cart to the customers car (since the costumer didn't want to drive back to the pick up) and then he took the cart back to the front himself. I think the key here is that if you need help JUST ASK, whole foods employees are always helpful, but they cant read our minds!

I purposely don't use a cart at WFs to avoid overspending!!! I carry two reusable bags fill them as I shop then checkout. And with that I will not share what WFs I use!
