SAT class - how much did your child’s score go up?

From first diagnostic practice test to final test they submitted for college applications?

We did applerouth. Went up 200

We had a private tutor just for math. Did not go up too much overall but when superscoring went up about 150 total pts

The Princeton Review classes were recommended to me. Child took them yet we have not received scores yet. We did one of the guaranteed score classes. They guarantee increase if student attends all classes and homework.

PR seems to think a 150 point increase is doable.

Some of it involves strategic guessing if you don’t the answer, which just leads me to believe these tests are dumb if kids are taught this.

No, utilizing educated guesses doesn't mean that the test are dumb. You may not know the right answer, but knowing why three of the answers are definitely wrong is still knowledge and should be rewarded.

PP. I want to add that in real life, being able to do back of the envelope calculations is at least as valuable, if not more valuable, than getting the actual exact answer.

7 classes. Kid had a 1420 and ended up with a 1540.

Did their math & English go up about the same amount? Our son has much higher math, and unless the English goes up a lot, his composite won’t be high. Wondering whether he should try the ACT.

Our DC’s low to mid 20s math score jumped to 30 (31?), had a final overall of 34, and he netted 36s in English and reading. Took one diagnostic test, worked with a tutor, then sat for a test with the coach saying “this will be good practice.” Decided “done” after he got the score, guessing that he probably could not replicate.
