My college age son wants to visit DC with 2 friends and spend one or two nights in DC or Arlington.
I'm looking for any suggestions. Is this the kind of thing a travel agent would want to manage? They are all 21. The kids were looking at airbnbs. None of us know anything about the neighborhoods in DC. I've never used airbnb or vrbo and don't know if they'd rent to a 21 year old. I suggested a hotel because I'm concerned about airbnb scams. For what it's worth, they aren't there to party. One will be starting an internship in DC and wants to visit before the internship begins. They also don't drink or drug. |
| Budget? |
| Is $500 for a night reasonable? |
|
Which areas will they be frequenting? Will try have transportation? Do they need access to public transportation?
500/night is more than enough. If they stayed at the Westin in ballston/Arlington you would be close to the metro and close to many restaurants. |
| Sorry. They were hoping for $500ish for 2 nights but now they aren't certain if they can schedule more than one night. |
They planned to uber or take the metro. I thought uber would be easy from Arlington. They mostly want to see the Spy Museum and as many art museums as possible. |
This is a fine suggestion. I just looked at their prices, OP, and it's well under 250 most nights for 1 room that 3 can share. They could check TripAdvisor for other recommended hotels near Metro in Arlington, pay a lot less per night than they would in DC, and Metro in in just a few minutes. |
| Uber is the best bet. They might like staying at the Marriott in the Wharf where the action is. |
|
Thanks for the suggestions. They'll need a suite or 2 rooms. Son is looking at the hotels now.
Also if they don't drink would the Wharf be a good place to stay? |
Yes, lots of restaurants and things to do. It's a fun area. |
| If I was asking my mom for help I also would be telling my mom I wasn’t there to drink. They should just Priceline a room in DuPont/admo and have a fun few days. Easy access to everything |
The wharf stinks. Corporatized junk |
| Georgetown is a good spot. Many restaurants, shops, walkable to other areas and short Uber to spy museum area. |
I understand your point and I don't have any issue with my kid drinking. He and his friends are completely against it. We had a young relative he looked up to who was killed by a drunk driver a few years ago. It left a mark. Thanks for the advice about Dupont Circle. |
Actually on second thought, maybe they should look at city center. Walkable to all the museums, China town, etc. safe area. |
