Sneezed while peeing. Now it hurts to pee.

I sneezed while I was peeing yesterday, and I immediately after felt a burning pain and saw som drops of blood in my urine as I finished peeing. Note this is distinct from a sneeze causing you to pee. I’m a male, btw. I assumed that the pressure of the sneeze interrupting the pressure of peeing caused a tear in my urethra and that this will just go away. To be on the safe side, I went to my primary care doc in case I needed antibiotics as I wasn’t sure if peeing over a tear was unsanitary. My doc said that he didn’t think the sneeze had anything to do with it, that it was just a coincidence. He then said because there was blood in my urine he can’t do anything for me. He said I need to see a urologist. It’s going to take over a month to get an appointment with one. My urinalysis didn’t show any blood in my urine, but I saw some drops as I finished peeing before my appointment this morning.

Has anyone else sneezed while peeing? Did it hurt/cause bleeding? If the burning/blood gets better before my urologist appointment, should I cancel it? I don’t want to needlessly spend money on a specialist.

If there’s blood in your urine definitely get it examined, even if symptoms seem to improve.

The sneeze was maybe a coincidence, you have an UTI.

Go to urgent care to get tested for a UTI. DO NOT use UTI remedies/pain relief before the visit.

I got an inguinal hernia from coughing while peeing. A sharp pain that was misdiagnosed for months as a UTI. I am female so they never thought of that. Urine tests showed no UTI but they gave me stronger and stronger antibiotics until I diagnosed myself.

This is what I was going to say even as someone who's never experienced anything like this nor has medical training. Isn't it kind of obvious that sudden pressure can cause ruptures inside the body? This can happen with excess pressure in the bowels as well. You probably blew a hole in your urethra

Kidney stone? Could be the force of the cough pushed it through, causing the pain.

When I sneeze, often my spine cracks back into place. Sneezing creates a lot of internal violence.

if repair is needed, it is small surgery. some people leave them unrepaired for years if it is not problematic. the urologist will advise what you are dealing with. take care, OP, and take one thing at a time.
