Family of 4 (ES aged kids) - how much do you spend on groceries every week

Anonymous
My husband is lazy and does grocery delivery and it is well over $1000/month for us and two little kids who don't eat much. WTH???

Food prices have increased and the product amt has decreased. True.

Have you taken a closer look at the receipt - is it the beer and wine, the produce, the name brand items, buying too many non-sale items.

Maybe you should both sit down and select the items you need together. That way you're on the same page for meals too.

Can you nix the delivery option? That fee (and tip) adds up quickly.

We use Amazon Fresh delivery because its actually cheaper then our local giant or safeway. I do once a month costco runs as well to fill in pantry staples that are cheaper there.

My kids are 4 and 8. We spend around $1000 in a month for groceries, but we also eat out very, very rarely so it captures almost our entire food budget.

Also, my kids eat a lot, especially the little one.

$175/wk
It was $130/wk before prices shot up. I cook/pack every meal except we order out for dinner on Fridays.

Groceries only runs us about 1200/mo. We don't drink alcohol and eat like birds. We are 4 and I'm also astounded by the price. We do buy fresh produce and meat mostly, not much processed food, so maybe that's why.

We definitely spend more than that. More like $1300/month. We occasionally get grocery delivery but that only adds about $10 for the tip. Food is expensive right now and I have two hungry boys.

Same, although we probably spend more. We buy mostly/entirely organic though (for both health and environmental reasons), so it's just expensive. When we've had to pinch, when money was tight, buying conventional and/or processed food was considerably cheaper.

Delivery actually tends to limit impulse purchases but the tradeoff is you cant replace for cheaper items or meat that is on sale/clearance and save money that way. Nor do you pick your own items like produce.

I track every penny we spend and it is difficult to keep it under 1000/mo for groceries (includes propane, paper towels, toilet paper, household supplies) for 2 adults plus 1 kid. We eat 95% of our meals at home. I have a variety of fruits and vegetables. For example, in our house right now, we have: 6 peppers, arugula, radishes, celery, lemons, limes, watermelon, strawberries, cherries, red grapes, one apple, bag of oranges (1 for pulled pork recipe and the other for fresh OJ), carrots, green onions, broccoli, peaches, blueberries, corn. Already finished bagged salad and some of the peppers.
Anything that starts get too ripe gets frozen for smoothies.

I buy organic whole milk and pasture raised eggs. My DH wont eat less than 4 eggs when we have eggs in the morning so that gets expensive.

I also have to provide individually packaged snacks for 2 snacks a day for preschool because my son has issues with dairy and needs snacks if the school provided snack has dairy. That averages 40-70/mo.

Right around $1k/month, but that figure includes beer/wine, paper products, toiletries, etc.
