College Transitions compiles Linkedin data on the most common employers for hundreds of universities, I compiled the data for the top 20(ish) schools in the country. Please add your DC's schools info from
https://www.collegetransitions.com/dataverse/top-employers Brown University- Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon, Goldman Sachs Caltech- Northrop Grumman, Google, Boeing, NASA, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Apple Carnegie Mellon University- Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon, Apple Columbia University- Google, Amazon, Citi, Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs Cornell University- Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook, IBM Dartmouth College- Google, Amazon, Goldman Sachs, Facebook, Microsoft Duke University- Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook, Goldman Sachs Emory University- CDC, Deloitte, Google, EY, PwC Georgetown University- Deloitte, US Army, Google, The World Bank, Citi Harvard University- Google, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Amazon, McKinsey & Company Johns Hopkins University- Google, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Amazon, Microsoft, IBM MIT- Google, Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, IBM Northwestern University- Google, Accenture, Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft Princeton University- Google, Goldman Sachs, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon Rice University- Google, Baylor College of Medicine, Shell, ExxonMobil, Chevron Stanford University- Google, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon University of California, Berkeley- Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon, Stanford University University of California, Los Angeles- Google, Amazon, Apple, Facebook, Microsoft University of Chicago- Google, Goldman Sachs, Facebook, Amazon, JPMorgan Chase & Co. | What does this mean? All those employers are large companies with lots and lots of employees. You could look at many other lower ranked universities and still come up with this same list of popular employers |
|
So strange that you excluded UVA. Cap One, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Google, Amazon.
Data is from 2020, anyway. |
|
Kind of interesting how little these lists differ (only UVA has Google and only VT has Microsoft)...
UVA - Capital One, Deloitte, EY, Google, Amazon VT - Capitol One, Booz Allen, Deloitte, Microsoft, IBM W&M - Capital One, Booz Allen, Deloitte, EY, IBM JMU - Capital One, Booz Allen, Deloitte, EY, Accenture GMU - Booz Allen, Northrop, Deloitte, Capital One, Amazon You still see Capital One and Booz... VCU - VCU Health, Capital One, Dominion Energy, HCA Health, Altria CNU - Ferguson, Newport News Schools, Newport News Shipbuilding, US Army, Capital One ODU - US Navy, Sentara, Newport News Shipbuilding, Anthem, Booz Allen |
Because UVA is not an Elite College. |
|
Eww, ewww, eww, nice, it depends Not a good balance for uva |
You can just go on LinkedIn and see current totals. They have a view of where alumni work. |
| For any of the B4 listed, you really need to figure out if people are going into audit, tax, advisory/consulting, risk or support to get a complete picture. |
| Well, a friend's son got into Microsoft after early college program from DCPS and 2 years at a mediocre state school. Another joined IBM after 2 years of community college and 2 years of state school (75% acceptance rate). You just have to know right people, which obviously elite college grads have. |
| What the heck is college transitions? |
| It seems tech, finance and consulting are professions of choice. |
It is though |
Not sure about that. They are the ones that pay the most out of the gate. But they can be horrible jobs. |
|
my daughter went to a university you would all pooh-pooh. she landed a job at one of the often mentioned companies in your list. none of her colleagues came from any of your favorite top 20 universities.
you are placing much too much importance of being from one of your favorite top 20 universities |
