Alexandria Residents Petition to Stop the Use of Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers
https://alexandrialivingmagazine.com/news/leafblower-noise-petition/ Petition https://www.gopetition.com/petitions/reduce-leaf-blower-noise-in-alexandria.html Initiative to ban gas leaf blowers in Alexandria, following Fairfax County. Leaf blowers are inefficient and often just move debris from one home or street to the next, rather than actually collecting it, lowering air quality. |
| Signed! |
| Yes!!! Signed! |
| Not signing something so ridiculous |
| The electric ones are just as loud. But pollute less. |
My battery powered Ego is just as powerful as my old back blower was and a 1/4 of the house and pitch. |
| Nope. My old stuff runs fine. From a sustainability standpoint, why would I throw away perfectly good equipment and spend hundreds of dollars to replace it? |
To increase demand for rare earth minerals, primarily mined in China. |
| Can we ban the 24/7 helicopters too? Can we enforce the loud exhaust and fire works ban in Alexandria too? Let's start there. |
| This is hysterical. We moved from Alexandria to a different Nova neighborhood because of rising crime in our immediate neighborhood and the public schools. But people are spending time and energy on leaf blowers? |
Right??!!! The crime is a major issue here that everyone is turning a blind eye to. I guess because they voted for the mayor? I don't know, there is no other logical explanation as to why it's being ignored. |
They ARE almost as loud. When we got ours, I was shocked how loud it was. And it still pollutes. Let’s not BS ourselves about that. It’s just that the pollution is happening at the power plant rather than here at the blower itself. |
They’re quieter (not silent). Just as my friend Dwight, who has ambushed by a Prius in electric mode. |
| Or use rakes. Better for your health and reduces medical care costs. |
We moved from downtown DC to NoVa for work reasons. Our leafy neighborhood is much noisier than central DC. The yards here are huge, and there are leaf blowers running at least 3 hours a day. I don’t understand why people need the leaves blown onto their lawns from under their trees, and then back under the trees from their lawns, except that it provides work for recent non-English speaking immigrants. |
