My 23 year old son is showing signs of depression and codependency. He just escaped a toxic relationship with someone borderline. He needs help rebuilding self esteem and developing healthy relationship boundaries. Also has ADHD and (almost certainly) depression. As a teen he saw a great female psychiatrist for ADHD, but now feels that she had been a bit naggy and pushy. It’s unfair, but I think seeing someone he identifies with would help a lot.
It will be a miracle if I can get him to agree to see someone. I’ll take recommendations for any great psychiatrists and therapists in DC. Please help me open the door to a provider he might trust! |

This is how we found our child's therapist:
Go to psychologytoday.com Enter your insurance company and your zip code Enter what you are looking for (depression, anxiety, codependency, whatever). Not sure if you can enter that you are looking for a male therapist. But, many profiles will pop up, and you can ignore the female ones. Many will say they are not taking new patients. Contact several that do Not say they are not taking new patients, and hope one gets back to you with a schedule that will work for your son. Good luck! |

agree with previous poster that psychologytoday.com is a great place to find a therapist. you'll find that there are many different providers who do therapy on there: social workers, licensed professional counselors, psychologists. All can be very good.
I refer patients to therapy as part of my job and i have found many good therapists on this site. |

OP here. Thank you to the above posters. I have started looking through the Psychology Today website. It’s good to know people have found good matches that way.
Thanks again! Personal recommendations still appreciated. |
