APS- new relaxed COVID protocols

Highlights:

Contact Tracing/Case Notification
APS has discontinued contact tracing for individual cases as of June 17. The Virginia Department of Health no longer requires schools to contact trace individual COVID-19 cases. Contract tracing will occur if there is an outbreak at a school. Families and staff will continue to get a daily notification if a COVID-19 case has been reported to the school that day. The daily communication is for information purposes only.

COVID Testing and Test to Stay
The Test-to-Stay program for unvaccinated individuals as well as symptomatic testing at school locations has been discontinued as of June 17.

APS will continue to provide weekly surveillance testing at all school locations and at Syphax for staff and students as a preventative measure to detect asymptomatic COVID cases and prevent the spread. Staff and families who wish to participate must OPT IN. Please view the updated summer schedule for weekly testing online and opt in today, if you have not done so.

Quarantine and Isolation
Close contacts who are up to date with vaccines or who have had Covid-19 within the last 6 months do not need to quarantine unless they develop symptoms. If you develop symptoms, get tested. In the event of a school-based outbreak, APS will support contact tracing as needed to reduce sustained transmission in the school setting. Before allowing students and staff to return to school, they must have completed isolation and/or quarantine periods as appropriate. Staff and students who meet the CDC definition of a close contact and who are not up to date with vaccinations should complete a quarantine period.

Qualtrics Health Symptom Screener
The Qualtrics screener email that used to be sent daily will be discontinued. Everyone should monitor for symptoms daily and stay home if sick or experiencing symptoms. In the event positive Covid-19 test, families and staff should report the case and will receive follow-up guidance. Families can report a case here and staff can report a case here.

I am just pleased to no longer get those texts and emails every day (the health screeners).

I stopped the texts months ago, and am thrilled that there will be no more daily emails.

This is good. I hope more kids will stop wearing masks as well.

+100 We just got back from Europe and it's so weird to see kids still wearing masks here. Same if you just drive 30 minutes outside Arlington. It's like the deep blue DC area is an island of insanity.

Serious question, that I'm sure will start a fight but I don't mean for it to. But, why do you care? If masks are optional and your kid isn't going to be quarantined if he's a close contact, why does it bother you if other families choose to mask?

Because the world changed in 2020 and there are folks that simply couldn't handle that

Because it's time to get back to normal. The rest of the non-deep blue America and Europe are back to normal. There's no dystopian "new normal" of permanent masking.

This sounds vaguely like a 'no true Scotsman' fallacy

Did anyone see a notice of whether the policy is still five days out for a positive COVID test?

PP and serious answer - when you post crap like you did I do seriously think you are a NIMBY liberal who does all the right liberal window dressing but can’t stand the thought of poor people near you AND you seem crazy like you think you can win at covid!

And before you even start yes we masked with no issue while we needed to and then for a bit after and yes we are all vaxxed

But you still didn’t answer the question why does it matter to you if other people wear a mask? Does it matter to you if they wear a cast, crutches, wheelchair, head scarf, brace?
