What is the salary for a first test teacher?
Trying to decide between Fairfax,Arlington, and MCPS |
Don’t do it. Pick a different career. If you are not looking up the posted salary scales and this is your only question to an anonymous forum, go into a different field of work. |
All of the divisions post a salary scale based on years of experiences and educational credentials.
Work at the school division you feel drawn to (curriculum. friends in the division, good interview vides) not the salary scale. You will need a second job, including tutoring or coaching at your school, in any division for the first ten years unless you have someone to support you. The cost of living is high. You'll either pay it in rent or commute. |

You can find this information on each district's web page. Look at how salary grows over time, and not just the first-year pay.
There are other factors that will influence your decision: Which is a community in which you want to live (or live near), long-term? A long commute may not be worth the extra pay. Decide which state you want to be in, long-term. You won't want to change states and leave your pension to start over halfway through your career. Look at the retirement programs and healthcare options. If you are young, have your parents look the options over with you. Also, if you don't have any offers in hand yet, it's time to hustle. |
